Mileage claim calculator
Enter your business miles for 2026/27 and see what HMRC's approved rates are worth โ including the drop after 10,000 miles that catches most people out.
Work out your mileage claim
Uses the HMRC approved mileage allowance payment (AMAP) rates for 2026/27: 55p per mile for the first 10,000 business miles, then 25p.
How the calculation works
HMRC pays a flat rate per business mile that is meant to cover fuel, insurance, servicing and depreciation together. You do not claim those costs separately.
For a car or van the sum is:
first 10,000 miles ร 55p
+ remaining miles ร 25p
+ passengers ร miles ร 5p
Example: 12,000 business miles in a car is (10,000 ร 55p) + (2,000 ร 25p) = ยฃ6,000.00.
If your employer already pays you mileage
You can claim tax relief on the difference between the approved rate and whatever your employer pays. If they pay 30p per mile and the approved rate is 55p, you can claim relief on the 25p shortfall for every business mile.
